PRESENTING THE 2017 BURGESS Award Winners

Golden Arrow AWARDs

The Maine Public Relations Council's 2017 Golden Arrows Awards Ceremony was postponed to January 10 because of snow, but it was worth the wait: we brought home two Silver awards, both for our efforts on behalf of clients who help make Maine a better place to live, learn and work:

Educate Maine- Website (Nonprofit)
This nonprofit brings together educators, businesses and other leaders toward the vital goal of preparing Mainers for post-secondary school success. Our website brought together the parent brand and other key programs (Maine Teacher of the Year, Project>Login, and Education Leaders Experience) under a unified look and feel. Learn all about this great organization and check out the web presence we created for them at EducateMaine.org.

Healthy Androscoggin/REACH- Innovative Use of Social Media
Lewiston-Auburn's "New Mainers"--African immigrants and refugees--now account for 11% of the population. To address their healthcare needs in a culturally and linguistically appropriate way, in 2014, Healthy Androscoggin was awarded a four-year Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Grant from the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Healthy Androscoggin chose Burgess as its marketing partner to raise awareness of "cultural competence" needs and resources. Among several tactics, we created a multi-pronged social media campaign last summer designed to "REACH" out to New Mainers, local providers, and the public. Check out this innovative campaign at: Facebook.com/HealthyAndroscoggin/

BRODERSON AWARDs

We’re excited to report that we earned six awards at Maine’s premier competition for advertising creativity, The Broderson Awards, on April 21, 2017. Read about our winning entries below, and scroll down to check out the other awards we’ve won over the years. Then stop by our new offices in Falmouth, call or email us to discuss how our strategic thinking and creative spark can yield positive results for your company, too.

Silver Award

MaineHousing - Digital Ads Banners Interstitials
MaineHousing bridges public and private housing finance to help Maine people afford quality housing (owned and rental). Their First Home Loan program offers qualified Maine homebuyers a below-market interest rate mortgage with a $3,500 "Advantage" payment to help with closing costs and down payment. We have promoted the First Home Loan primarily through digital banner ads in a variety of sizes, including banners, targeting potential homebuyers throughout the state, often featuring seasonal imagery and the theme, "Open the door to your future". Sub-campaigns target active duty military and vets, who qualify for an even lower rate; and those who haven't owned a home in three years. Our ads have consistently achieved click-through rates well above industry norms, and have helped MaineHousing meet very ambitious goals for lending volume in 2015 and 2016.

Silver Award

NECS - Breast Health Digital Interactive or Rich Media
New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is the region's largest medical oncology group, with three offices in southern Maine. In 2016 we ran several webmail takeover ads promoting the practice (one focused on breast cancer and the other on their highly personal approach), as part of a multichannel campaign featuring print, digital, social, TV, and transit ads. The webmail ads appeared on the login screen for customers accessing their Time Warner Cable email accounts. Overall, the ads performed very strongly with a 1.15% click-through rate, well above the national average of 0.04%.

Bronze Award

enroll207.com -  Social Media Integrated or Multi-Platform
When Maine declined to set up a health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act, the Maine Health Access foundation (MeHAF) established a website, enroll207.com, to help Mainers learn about the options and sign up for coverage at Healthcare.gov. Burgess created a wide range of social media posts, ads and graphics as part of a multimedia campaign, which proved to be one of the most successful nationwide, with the highest sign-up rate per capita in the nation.

Bronze Award

MaineHousing - First Home Loan Digital Interactive or Rich Media
MaineHousing bridges public and private housing finance to help Maine people afford quality housing (owned and rental). Their First Home Loan program offers qualified Maine homebuyers a below-market interest rate mortgage with a $3,500 "Advantage" payment to help with closing costs and down payment. We have promoted the First Home Loan primarily through digital ads, including these webmail takeover ads, which appeared on the login screen for customers accessing their Time Warner Cable email accounts. (One promoted a special lower rate for National Homeowners Month in June.) The ads performed very strongly with a 1.80% click-through rate, well above the national average of 0.04% for digital ads, and have helped MaineHousing meet very ambitious goals for lending volume in 2015 and 2016.

MaineHousing Social Media Organic
When Maine declined to set up a health insurance exchange under the Affordable Care Act, the Maine Health Access foundation (MeHAF) established a website, enroll207.com, to help Mainers learn about the options and sign up for coverage at Healthcare.gov. Bronze Award

NECS - Hands Print Small Ad
While New England Cancer Specialists prides itself on providing the most advanced cancer care in Maine, it also recognizes the importance of emotional support to its patients' journey. Our ad for arts programs and similar publications used the human hand as a metaphor for the "high-touch" approach each specialist at the practice takes.
