Portland, ME—Burgess Advertising & Marketing, a full-service communications agency serving Maine-based businesses for more than 30 years, was recently honored with three Maine Public Relations Council (MPRC) Golden Arrow Awards in a variety of categories for its distinguished communications efforts on behalf of clients in 2016.
Burgess was recognized with a Silver Award in the category of Print or Online Newsletters for its own seasonal e-newsletter, the “BAM-O-GRAM,” which is sent out to the agency’s past and prospective clients, friends, suppliers and colleagues in the marketing and advertising industry. The e-blast is an important tool for the agency to disseminate news and promotional information about its work projects and milestones. Burgess created the “BAM-O-GRAM” brand and header template for these e-news mailings, and each edition is carefully planned to highlight either a major new client or significant service provided. In 2016, the four e-blasts generated consistently high open rates of 27-29%, and click-through rates between 2-4%, which are substantially higher than the Constant Contact industry averages of 14% and 1.1%, respectively. In the Media Events category, Burgess won a Silver Award for its efforts on behalf of Educate Maine’s Project>Login TechHire Designation Press Event. In August of 2015, Maine was designated as a “TechHire Community” by the White House after several influential Maine-based employers committed to hiring qualified IT and computing professionals, regardless of their background. Educate Maine’s Project>Login, a nonpartisan public-private effort to expand the network of computing and IT staff members in the state, approached Burgess to help promote the designation and encourage other Maine businesses to join the initiative. Burgess organized a press event including Senator Angus King and speakers from Educate Maine, IDEXX Laboratories, and other Project>Login partners. The agency compiled and distributed stories about several employees who achieved success through a non-traditional job path; developed press materials; executed the press conference and media tour; and supported an information session with representatives of various Maine businesses on how they can become involved with Maine’s TechHire effort.
Burgess’s extensive work on the rebranding of Greater Portland Health (formerly known as Portland Community Health Center), a community nonprofit and Federally Qualified Health Center, earned a Silver Award in the category of Organizational Identity Campaign. In 2016, Greater Portland Health had grown to provide comprehensive healthcare for more than 6,600 patients throughout its four Portland locations, and it planned to open a fifth location in South Portland. Burgess was enlisted to help create a new brand identity for the organization to adequately represent its high quality care and soon-to-be expanded reach. Burgess developed the new Greater Portland Health name and logo, and produced a variety of new printed collateral including a Grand Opening invitation for an open house at its new South Portland location, a postcard, patient handbook, and company brochure. The agency also coordinated the public relations and social media efforts for the grand opening and new name announcement, and designed a completely new website, to replace the existing outdated site. As a result, the new name and tagline proved popular among virtually all stakeholders; the South Portland office grand opening was well attended by local officials, families, and members of the media; patient counts have since risen across the five offices; and website traffic increased by about 64% within the first two months after launching the new site.
