At Burgess, our creative process begins by getting into the mind of a client’s target audience. Once we’ve determined who it is we’re talking to, what they currently think and what we want them to think, we then figure out how to say it—in a way that is both attention-getting and persuasive. This is where the magic begins.

We believe the most valuable creative "product" of a great ad agency is not the pictures, headlines or printed pieces produced, but the ideas behind them. So ideas are where we start. Brainstorming sessions get us to the heart of a message - the simpler and more direct, the better. We like to generate a broad range of concepts that run from the sublime to the ridiculous because there really are many ways to skin a cat (though no cats are ever harmed in our creative process). We find that our clients enjoy the collaborative aspect of looking at rough layouts with us - after all, this is the fun part of marketing—and often make significant contributions.

We also find that our clients are not crazy about surprises. So only when we’re certain that we’ve nailed the message do we move on to tight, finished layouts (or, for TV spots, storyboards) for final approval.

We employ no secret formulas, no cookie-cutter approaches. Every client gets original ideas that work hard for their product/service and resonate with their customers.

To the uninitiated, this process may seem like magic. But it involves no hocus-pocus; just the right combination of art, science and imagination, plus our own secret ingredient: BAM!
