Viral marketing
Generate a web-wide buzz about your products and services using one of the Internet's social infrastructure darlings – YouTube. YouTube is a great place to post home-grown videos or advertisements for extreme market exposure.
The best BAM! advice we can impart to nurture your viral video efforts include these important tips for YouTube Search & Rank Optimization:
- Buzz Worthiness — your video must have a viral agent (content or hook) worthy of generating a buzz and driving the viral process. For instance, Engineerz! (a TV commercial we created for the Maine Engineering Promotion Council to drive attendance to its Brain Power 08 Expo) used one of Maine's coolest high school rock bands to deliver a message directed to the event's primary target audience — future engineers. The infectious nature of the video can be attributed to a hip, topical song sung by a group of savvy internet users — college bound teens from Maine! Of course this clip was going to be passed around.
- Keywords — search engines cannot read videos for ranking purposes. It's incumbent upon you to create and include relevant keywords for video tags, titles and descriptions with your postings. If you look at the StaticOff posting on YouTube, you'll see that the video's title "StaticOff Zapper Stopper Commercial" and tags, "Static Off Zapper Stopper", are nearly identical, and that the video's description contains 12 instances of the chosen keywords.
- Category Selection — you need to submit your video to a category that's best related to your subject matter. Category choices include: Autos & Vehicles, Comedy, Education, Entertainment, Film & Animation, How To & Style, Music, News & Politics, Nonprofits & Activism, Pets & Animals, Science & Technology, Sports and Travel & Events.
- Share Your Video — once you've set up your account on YouTube, embed the video on your website. Every time someone plays the video on your site, the hit counter on YouTube goes up. Then email all your friends, family, clients, colleagues, and so forth a link to the web page where your video resides and invite them to pass the link along. Look for blog postings of a similar nature and share your interests. If you're truly adding comments of merit, a link back to your site or to your YouTube account is not considered spamming. Something along the lines of what we did for Efficiency Maine's Bulb vs Bulb spot on Television Blog.
