Breast Cancer and Energy Efficiency Behind Portland Agency’s Big Night
Portland, ME - Portland, ME. December 6, 2008 – Burgess Advertising & Marketing took out the lion's share of awards, including Best of Show, at the 17th annual Maine Public Relation’s Council's Golden Arrow Awards ceremony, held at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, Maine.
The Portland-based agency won three first place awards and one second, as well as taking the coveted Best in Show at the ceremony which was hosted by WMTW's Marnie Maclean.
The Golden Arrows provide a forum for exhibiting exemplary work from Maine’s public relations practitioners, promote public recognition of the high quality of communications produced in Maine, and gain corporate and client recognition for top quality PR efforts. This year the Public Relations Association of America’s Richmond, Virginia, chapter judged the awards.
Gold and Silver awards are presented in a variety of categories, ranging from materials design to comprehensive communications campaigns.
Burgess, which is now in its 22nd year of business in Portland, won:
- A Gold Award in the Citizenship category for its "License to Cure" Specialty License Plate Campaign.
- A Gold Award in the Communications Campaign category (Not for Profit) for client Efficiency Maine’s "One Million CFLs Sold" Campaign.
- A Gold Award in the Odds and Ends category for its Efficiency Maine "Green Team" TV documentary.
- A Silver Award in the Citizenship category for the March of Dimes’ "Change this Diaper" Prematurity Awareness Campaign.
The "License to Cure" campaign also won the overall Best in Show award. This campaign lead to Maine becoming the first US State to have a license plate dedicated to increasing awareness of breast cancer.
The two award winning campaigns for client Efficiency Maine dramatically boosted both the sale of CFL light bulbs in the state and awareness of energy conservation.
Judy Katzel, President of Burgess Advertising, said the awards reflected the agency’s creativity and versatility but most importantly the fact that the winning campaigns had been hugely successful for the agency’s clients.
