One of the co-founders of Burgess, Brewer, Stanyon and Payne, Oliver came to Maine in 1986 with a decade of experience in New York City, managing some of America’s best known brands, from Noxzema Skin Cream to Skippy Peanut Butter, Hellmann’s/Best Foods Mayonnaise and Mazola Oil. He brings to each client assignment a disciplined and inspired approach to creating effective advertising campaigns grounded in sharp, research-based strategies. He is adept at integrating themes and strategies across multiple media, on behalf of clients such as MEMIC, MeHAF/enroll207.com, saveyourpipes.org, Efficiency Maine and multiple banks and insurance agencies.
John was most recently the manager of the Growing Portland collaborative, an economic development initiative hosted by the City of Portland and the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that he worked in a number of communications and management capacities, with clients including Lucas Tree Experts, the Maine Health Access Foundation, Migis Lodge, TechMaine, Walch Education, and Wright-Ryan Construction. John has an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and has lived in Portland since 1990.
Julie brings her extensive sales and marketing experience to Burgess where she is an Account Manager assigned to University Disability Consortium (UDC) account as a Client Relationship Manager. UDC is a network of ABMS board-certified physicians, psychologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, and vocational rehabilitation professionals specializing in the performance of fair and unbiased medical file reviews. Julie creates and nurtures long-term relationships with UDC clients through transparent communication between the client and the UDC team. Julie manages UDC’s marketing, new business strategies, and prospecting. Julie graduated from the University of Maine and received a Master in the Art of Communication and Leadership from Gonzaga University. Julie loves to go for a walk, hike, or snowshoe with her puppy, Ruby.
The most experienced Media Director in the Maine market, Betty has worked with hundreds of clients—both consumer and B2B, on the local, regional, and national levels—over 30+ years. She possesses strong negotiating skills, loves research and numbers, and has an excellent working relationship with the media, bringing to each Burgess client maximum purchasing power and ideal ad placement. Virtually all our clients also benefit from her expertise in the ever-evolving digital media landscape (mobile, search, and pay-per-click).
Christina contributes fresh and effective design solutions for virtually all Burgess clients, including MeHAF/enroll207.com, E.J. Prescott, Chalmers Insurance Group and Hospice of Southern Maine. She is a 2014 graduate of the Maine College of Art, with a BA in Fine Arts, majoring in Graphic Design. While in college, she also freelanced for organizations throughout Maine, and developed a good eye, strong organizational skills, and an ability to explore a range of concepts for each project.
In addition to managing the office from the front desk, Becky Williamson coordinates our digital media. She has a dozen years of experience writing and posting for social media and a blog, creating videos for her own You Tube channel, as well as SEO, analytics and web development. Becky comes to Burgess from The Forecaster, where she handled event planning, office support and ad sales. At L.L. Bean, she was recognized for outstanding customer service. Becky moved to Southern Maine with her husband, Jeremy, in 2014. Becky enjoys gardening, camping and anything comical. Recently Becky adopted Mugsy, a cat with a large personality and very worthy of his own You Tube channel.
Tammy has brought to Burgess nearly 30 years of experience managing the financial and human resource functions in various small businesses, non-profits and public accounting. She has a B.S. in Accountancy from Bentley College, and is currently pursuing an MBA in Finance, and Enrolled Agent status. Tammy is a licensed private pilot, SCUBA diver, proud marathoner, past Board member at Sweetser, and a devoted volunteer in helping feed the disadvantaged. She is also passionate about her family, dogs, travel, cooking, and doing good in this world.
