Burgess Selected As Best Place to Work In Maine
October 13, 2011, 3:45 PMPortland, ME – Portland-based Burgess Advertising & Marketing has been named as the 2011 Best Place to Work in Maine in the small/medium category.
The "Best Places to Work in Maine" is a statewide survey and awards program designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Maine, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses. It is administered by the Maine State Council of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and run in partnership with the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, Best Companies Group (BCG), the Employment Times and Mainebiz.
The 2011 Best Places to Work in Maine finalists list was made up of 40 companies from throughout the State - 28 in the small/medium-sized category (15-249 employees) and 12 in the large-sized category (250+ employees).
Companies entered the two-part process to determine the Best Places to Work in Maine. Part one of the assessment (three quarters of each company's score) involved a confidential, 76 question employee engagement and satisfaction survey, which was used to evaluate employees' workplace experience and company culture. Part two of the assessment (one quarter of each company's score) consisted of the BCG employer questionnaire, used to collect information about company benefits, policies, practices and other general information. The combined data allowed BCG to analyze in depth each company's strengths and challenges, and determine the final rankings.
Burgess CEO and founder Meredith Burgess said being selected as the Best Place to Work in Maine was one of the highlights of the company's 25th anniversary year.

Burgess has participated in Best Places to Work in Maine for the last three years and has placed in the top ten each time, including finishing third in 2009.
Of its current staff, 44 percent have been with the company over 10 years and 66 percent have been at Burgess for more than five years.
