What Goes into One of Maineâ€™s Largest Construction Projects?

Answer: 280 tons of rebar, 2,300 tons of structural steel, 50,000 square feet of concrete and — just as important — an effective and strategic team of communications professionals.

On May 4, 2010, the first small chunk of earth was moved at the official ground breaking ceremony for the Portland International Jetport’s terminal expansion project. Earlier this month, various celebrations and well-attended events were held in honor of the terminal expansion’s completion as it opened its doors for travelers.

city officials and project partners to officially break ground.

In the 18 months that followed the first shovel strikes; some serious manpower paved the way in the completion of this project. Speaking of manpower, the Burgess team did plenty of flexing and heavy lifting… of the mental variety. As this project continued to achieve milestone after milestone, our marketing, advertising and PR expertise delivered work that got results. From the groundbreaking to the grand opening, we ensured the Portland International Jetport was top of mind, on message and on target by earning press coverage every step of the way.

Jetport to celebrate another project milestone: the topping-off ceremony.

Here are a few examples:

There was the topping off ceremony in December of 2010;
FAA’s recognition of PWM’s geothermal heating system; and,
The more recent official “ribbon” cutting ceremony to officially open the expanded terminal.

Additionally, we would like to extend thanks to everyone who made the expanded terminal’s opening events such a success. Special thanks go out to Bash Events & Catering, Headlight Audio Visual and the Portland String Quartet for bringing our vision for the terminal’s grand opening to life.
